Figure 1. Dumbo Octopus. Dumbo Octopuses (Grimpoteuthis) live deep in the open ocean, remarkably making this group one of the deepest living of all octopuses. Surviving in these extreme conditions requires an intense tolerance to cold water and a complete lack of light. They have been known to survive in depths of 13,000 feet and deeper, foraging along the ocean floor.
