Part of my Gene Mutation assignment PP

Submitted by yurigarcia on Sun, 09/16/2018 - 18:28

Gene mutation occurs when there is a change in the genetic material (DNA). These changes can be either spontaneous during DNA replication because they just take place and mistakes occur during DNA replication.  Sometimes they are (induced) caused by certain factors such as radiation, mutagenic chemicals (cigarette smoke) and temperature. For example, when they are hereditary and passed to their offspring, there are genetic disorders such as Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle cell anemia and Tay-Sachs. Even though, mutations are bad most of the time sometimes it could be an advantage and it could help evolution.

There are a lot of parentheses, maybe you can shorten these/ remove them.

The parentheses don't seem to add anything to the paragraph except confusion. I don't think you have to capitalize cystic fibrosis or sickle cell anemia. You also don't need the comma after even though in the last sentence. Instead, the comma should be put after "most of the time."

In your paragraph, I noticed a lot of parentheses. In one sentence you wrote " (induced) caused" if you don't think the reader will understand what you meant by induced then it would probably be better to just write caused. In addition, instead of putting "mutagenic chemicals (cigarette smoke)" you could write "like cigarette smoke" because that is not the only mutagenic chemical.
