Week 9 - Intro to Blogging

This week, we spent a lot of time introducing the concept of blogging.  What does it mean to blog, what are some of the potential benefits and risks of blogging, and how can we handle negative feedback or, even scarier, deliberate trolls?  This was a discussion heavy class - if you missed it, I encourage you to talk to your fellow students about our in-class conversation.  Lecture slides are posted but will likely not be very useful without additional notes.

For next week, you will be creating a short (3 slide!) presentation about your favorite science blog.  If you have not yet done so, please email me your blog of choice by tomorrow!!!  You *need* to get my written approval before you start working on the presentation.  The presentation itself will involve the following slides:

1. Title (your name & the blog name)
2. Screenshot of blog's home page
3. Screenshot of your favorite recent post

In addtion, make sure you are able to answer/are prepared to discuss the following questions:

• What works about this blog?
• What doesn't work about it?
• How would you make it work or address the flaws?

Finally, please make sure you send me your slides by next Sunday night so I can build the presentation file for everyone. And let me know if you have any questions!
