Database Upgrades to Improve Access to Collections

Nov 03, 2011

The Specify6 database, developed at the University of Kansas, is widely used in the U.S. for specimen collections. It provides a consistent format and tools to access information. The data, which might consist of text, images, etc., is readily imported from Excel and other common database formats and will be mounted on Biology Department servers where it can be linked from the Natural History website. Herbarium Curator Karen Searcy, Technician Roberta Lombardi, Collections Manager Kate Doyle, and Instructional Technology Director Steve Brewer recently attended a two-day workshop on the program at the University of New Hampshire.
