A brief family history

Around 200 years ago, my ancestor fled to modern-day Syria after facing persecution in Lebanon. Since then my family has lived in al-Mishtayeh, a small Syrian town not far from the Lebanese border. Around 90 years ago, several of my distant family members left Syria for South America, settling in Argentina and Brazil. In my parents' generation my family became highly educated and were able to find work around the world, settling mostly in America, although I have a maternal aunt in Canada and a paternal aunt in France. Several of my mom's cousins moved to Australia, also in search of better work opportunities. Although they left for a variety of reasons, a single one resonates from the beginning: a search for a better environment and life for their children.
