ScaleMail Home Page

Thank you for mailing me scales!

I am a Ph.D student at UMass, Amherst, studying the evolution of sexual and asexual forms of the Pine Needle Scale, Chionaspis pinifoliae, an armored scale insect, throughout its range across North America.
I find these bugs on nearly every pine tree I come across. They are easy to spot as they live under a white teardrop shaped waxy cover that contrasts against green pine needles.

Please see the link at left for how to find and collect scales (it's easy!) then fill out and submit the form below.
I will e-mail you a pre-paid printable UPS shipping label. Simply affix the label to your packaging and drop it in any UPS drop box or UPS store. If necessary, I can ask UPS to schedule a pickup at your address.
