Thank you to all the participants of the Saturday seminar -- I had a fabulous time working with all of you. I have posted my initial slide presentation as a PDF.
I will also create a "Resources" page with links to some of the resources mentioned during the talk.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
Welcome to the website for the seminar Ecology: Making Science Real. I have posted a Schedule to try to keep us on track. We might deviate from the schedule depending on how things go.
While we're getting started, I encourage you to register for the site so you can post things as we go along.
I plan to start with introductions. I will tell you a bit about myself and about my philosophy of teaching, so you can understand the perspective I'm coming from. I will talk a bit about the kinds of projects I have students do. Then, I'm planning to get you involved in a few projects this morning.
I have a short exercise I hope to do on Information Literacy.
We're going to look at some air photos and see what we can see about different places on earth.
After coffee, we're going to look at some more places in Google Earth and talk for a bit about how else we can use Google Earth to explore ecology both near and far.
Finally, I plan to send you into the Real World to do a little ground proofing and talk about ecology in more depth.
