About the Image

Here is the Warsaw Grouper (Epinephelus nigritus) from the 2002 Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. It weighed 386.5 lbs and was 6'6" Total Length. The complete skeleton is a UMass specimen; it should be through its preparation by December 2002. The picture also shows Professor William E. Bemis, Dr. Peter L. Forey (Museum of Natural History London) and Dr. Lance Grande (Field Museum of Natural History Chicago). Each year, our extended research group spends a week or two at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo and Dauphin Island Sea Lab in July, where we collect and prepare skeletons of fishes for the UMass Ichthyology Collection.
