magnified about 100 times. This particular midge is a predator and was
collected in Warwick, RI. The image has been artificially colorized. The
mandibles and mentum, which the larva uses to crush prey, are highlighted
in red. This image was produced using the SEM at
UMASS Central Microscopy
Facility and image-capture software developed by Dale Callaham.
