This photo captures a moment of awe during a National Marine Fisheries Fall Bottom Survey of the Gulf of Maine when a large lobster, just captured by otter trawl, was being examined prior to its return to the sea. It is part of a study of lobster molting and reproductive biology initiated by Joe Kunkel. This CMER project proposes an approach using a minimally invasive sampling of lobster serum along with standard morphometric data to be used as indicators of maturation and health of lobster populations.
