ISB and remote access to wahoo

Data access within ISB:
You can access your image data stored on wahoo on a Mac on the ISB network by selecting Go in the Finder. Establish an external connection to wahoo. (Do this by opening the Finder, then selecting Go>Connect to server. Type in smb://wahoo.) Login with your BCRC/Duck username/password (this is different than your username/password for this site — see the last paragraph if you don't know your username). You should see two volumes to mount: bioimaging and your own personal volume. You can write and read from your station's bioimaging directory. You can only read from other bioimaging directories. Only you can access your own personal volume.

You can also use SFTP from within the ISB. See the description below. The only difference is that you need only type "wahoo" in the server line.

Data access outside ISB:

Only you can access your own personal volume.

Data access outside ISB:
To access the data when you are not on the ISB network, use a file transfer program that is compatible with SFTP or SCP protocols. You can get free programs from the OIT web site software download section.

WinSCP is good for Windows machines. (Get WinSCP here: http://www.oit.umass.edu/software/download/win.html)

Fugu or Fetch are good for Macs. (Get Fugu or Fetch here: http://www.oit.umass.edu/software/download/mac.html)

Install one of these on the machine you want to use to have access to your data.

On your mac, in the finder menu, go/connect to server. type smb://wahoo.nsm.umass.edu

In WinSCP, you need to open a connection to wahoo.nsm.umass.edu, then set the remote directory to /export/quantbiol. You may have to back up to the first "/" in the address: u1/home/bio/yourid to get to /. Inside root, you can find export, and inside that, quantbiol. All the group folders (Tue01, Tue02, etc.) are inside quantbiol. Use your BCRC/Duck username/password to get to your data. You can now copy files to and from your directory.

Note: your wahoo username is the same as your Duck, snapper or marlin username. If you don't remember it, then go to https://bcrc.bio.umass.edu/passwd/index.phtml, enter your name, and you will see your username. Your default password is your student number.
